My Journey…
I’m a British artist exploring our relationship with nature through painting, drawing, and print. Inspired by personal connections to landscape, I create large, textural works in Kodachrome tones that blend observation, memory, and archival imagery, mapping journeys through both inner and outer terrains.
Originally from Yorkshire and now based in Manchester, I studied Visual Arts at Salford University, graduating in 2004. Over the past year, I’ve travelled the world with my family, homeschooling my children while creating and reflecting across diverse cultures and environments. This nomadic period has deepened my inquiry into how nature intersects with human presence and perception.
Making & Seeing…
My process often begins with drawing in the landscape or from life, capturing moments and details on paper. I then bring these sketches back to the studio, where they are developed through pencil, ink, and collage studies, often reassembled or abstracted before being translated in charcoal onto canvas and worked up in ink and oil colour.
Final compositions hover between figuration and abstraction, with images slipping in and out of focus like overlapping recollections.
Influenced by magical realism, Les Nabis, and abstract expressionism, I prioritise colour over detail. I employ impasto brushstrokes, delicate washes, and free-flowing ink, allowing paint to bloom and morph like memory itself.
Moments & Milestones…
I’ve exhibited in solo and group shows across the UK, Greece, and Bali, and my work has been shown widely in the UK and internationally, including at the Albemarle Gallery (London), Warrington Art Gallery and Museum, Contemporary Six Gallery, and Comme Ca Gallery (Manchester). My work is in numerous private collections and public collections, and it is collected around the world.
I was longlisted for the Jackson’s Art Prize (2023), shortlisted by Blue Shop Galleries (2024), and selected to be a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts (2021). I recently completed the Online Drawing Development Year (2024) with the Royal Drawing School, and I was selected for, and have just completed a two week residency at Dumfries House with the Royal Drawing School.
I’m currently preparing to show a new part of my work, created on silk, in China this December and have some exciting projects coming up in 2026.
